In order to maintain ruggedness the Radio Lock BAr was designed to be as simple as was absolutely required to assure maximum security. This precluded the use of any additional (and potentially weakening) feature that would make the unit "universal". Thus, the bar design evolved into a basic design with similar variants; they all have the same generic features, but with different corresponding geometries. All the lock bars use the airplane's control columns for prime attachment to the airplane and the gust lock holes in the panel-mounted collar for fore and aft fixity to the panel.
